1903-09-14 (124lbs) Pedlar Palmer w pts 20 Spike Robson, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: J. R. Smoult. Billed for the English 124lbs title, although not generally recognised as such having been contested over two-minute rounds, Robson started in whirlwind fashion before Palmer settled down to give his rival a boxing lesson. Time and again Robson missed with his leads when finding Palmer to difficult to nail down, and in the 13th round the latter landed his right with such force that the Tynesider almost collapsed. With superb footwork and great agility, Palmer would make punches miss by fractions while, at the same time, belting Robson with lefts and rights. Although the Londoner took several solid blows towards the end he ran out an easy winner.
