1903-09-29 (130lbs) Eddie Hanlon w pts 20 Benny Yanger, Mechanics’ Pavilion, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Ed Smith. Another match that was billed for the ‘legitimate’ 130lbs world featherweight title saw Hanlon get the better of Yanger this time round. As before it was extremely close, with Yanger having the best of the first half of the fight before Hanlon became the aggressor and came on strong to just about earn the decision. In the 15th round it looked like the end as Hanlon smashed Yanger to the floor with a right to the jaw, but when the latter managed to get to his feet his opponent was unable to finish him off. Yanger was again in dire trouble in the 20th session, and although he made it to the bell there was never a chance that his hand would be raised according to the referee.
