1903-10-03 (118lbs) Joe Bowker w pts 15 Bill King, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Billed for the English 118lbs title, £50-a-side, and purse, Bowker (118) extended his claim on outscoring King (117½). As usual the clever Bowker started at a fast pace, and although his punches lacked power he threw plenty of them in order to keep King off balance. King could never be dismissed, however, stunning Bowker with heavy right handers in the ninth and tenth rounds before the lad from Salford eventually boxed his way out of trouble. The remaining sessions saw Bowker on his toes, using the left to good effect while generally keeping out of danger as he danced his way to the decision over a very tough opponent.
