1903-11-09 (116lbs) Joe Bowker w rtd 9 (15) Al Fellows, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: J. H. Douglas. Advertised as a leading American fighter, Fellows was not in the same league as Bowker during what was a billed world 116lbs title encounter. Right from the start the gulf in class was evident, and although the New Yorker gamely stood in front of Bowker at times he was almost being used as a punching bag. By the sixth Fellows looked all in, such a battering had he taken, but despite that he had not been floored and was still trying to draw Bowker on to his punches. Even when Fellows chased after Bowker he got nowhere. The end came in the ninth after Fellows had been slammed against the ropes by a solid uppercut, his corner finally pulling him out of the contest.
