1903-11-14 (108lbs) Harry McDermott w rtd 5 (20) Jack Fitzpatrick, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: J. R. Smoult. Made at 108lbs, despite there being no title billing it did not stop McDermott furthering his English title claim at the weight when forcing Fitzpatrick’s corner to retire their man in the fifth round. Fitzpatrick started well enough, but before too long McDermott was on top, sending his rival all over the ring. Although as game as a pebble, Fitzpatrick was utterly bewildered by McDermott’s speed and hurtful punches, and when he slumped down to the canvas in the fifth his seconds had seen enough.
