1903-11-19 (105lbs) Willie Schumacher w pts 15 Kid Murphy, Manhattan, NYC, New York, USA. Held in private in a hall on 33rd Street, and billed for the American 105lbs title according to the Decatur Daily Review, despite contests of this duration being outlawed in New York at the time it was amazing to read that a police sergeant had acted as the referee. A few days later the New York World reported that the fight had been refereed by Jack McCarthy and the story about the police sergeant had to have been a hoax. There are very few details available as to how the contest went, other than the fact that there was a big crowd who witnessed it.

On 27 February 1904, Murphy outpointed Schumacher over six rounds at the National AC, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
