1903-12-07 (120lbs) George Dixon w pts 20 Cockney Cohen, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: J. R. Smoult. Although there was no title billing, with it being over three-minute rounds and with both men inside 120lbs Dixon retained his title claim despite most of the onlookers believing Cohen to be an easy winner. From first to last it had been an exciting contest with honours evenly shared for eight rounds and although Dixon had come on strong in the ninth and tenth sessions with body blows, Cohen’s best was yet to come. Having remained strong, the last five sessions saw Cohen scoring rapidly to head and body, and at the same time avoid the dangerous rushes of Dixon to finish the contest in seemingly winning fashion.
