1903-12-14 (158lbs) Jack Palmer w rtd 2 (15) Sergeant Tom Harris, Standard Theatre, Gateshead, England. Referee: Bert Dorman. Although the soldier from the 2nd Essex Regiment made a favourable showing in the opening round, weaving in and scoring with both hands, Palmer soon had his measure. In the second, Palmer continually jabbed Harris off balance before a swinging right landed squarely on the latter’s jaw to send him down heavily in his own corner. Although the bell came to Harris’ rescue he was in such a bad way that his seconds sensibly retired him during the interval. When the match was made it was reported to be for the English 158lbs title, but the Sporting Life failed to mention that. The paper also stated that the fight ended in the third round.

By February 1904 the same paper was claiming that Charlie Wilson should be seen as the English 158lbs champion, while Palmer was also reported as being the English 158lbs champion just a week later.
