1904-03-12 (94lbs) Barney Sloane w rtd 3 (20) Ben Gray, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Despite a lack of weights, Sloane was announced as being the English 94lbs champion and this one was seen as a defence of that title claim. Dropped in the first and second rounds by solid rights to the head, the shorter Gray appeared unable to get into the fight as Sloane continually opened him up with left jabs before crossing the right. Under pressure throughout the third, Gray was eventually sent down by a right hook to the jaw and was retired by his corner eight seconds from the end of the session.

The title then lapsed until Jimmy Wilde came through.
