Line 1: Line 1:
1904-04-18 (112lbs) [[Digger Stanley]] w pts 20 [[Jimmy Walsh]], NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: J. H. Douglas. Billed for the world 112lbs title with both men inside the weight, Walsh made a good start, his right hand punches to head and body appearing to be decisive. However, by the fourth round Stanley had his rival worked out and was right back in the contest with his clever manoeuvring and left hand work being the dominant factors. By the halfway stage there was too much holding, with Walsh looking to work on the inside, but Stanley was alive to the situation and made things more than hot for the American. Although Walsh made it lively in the last few sessions, especially with rights to the body, it was Stanley’s better work that gained him the verdict.
