1904-04-22 (142lbs) Honey Mellody w rsc 4 (6) Martin Duffy, Battery ‘D’ Club, Chicago, Illinois, USA. Referee: Abe Pollock. Although only a six rounder, the Boston Post reported that with Mellody inside 142lbs, the ‘white’ welter title changed hands following the result. Articled at 142lbs, Duffy (147½), who looked ill trained and out of condition, was toppled for a count of ‘nine’ in the fourth and on getting up was rescued by the referee when deemed to be defenceless. Duffy had taken a bad beating throughout and the decision was seen to be sensible.
