1904-04-22 Jack Johnson w co 20 (20) Sam McVey, Mechanics’ Pavilion, San Francisco, California, USA. A defence of Johnson’s ‘black’ title claim saw a relatively tame affair take place until a terrific right swing took McVey out of the fight in the last session. Another fight where Johnson risked the ‘black’ title was in a six rounder against Frank Childs at the Empire AC, Chicago, Illinois, winning on points on 2 June.
