1904-05-02 (144lbs) Jack Clancy w pts 10 Peter Brown, Wonderland, Mile End, London, England. Referee: Victor Mansell. This was the final of a 144lbs world championship belt competition that had seen Charlie Knock and Charlie Allum eliminated earlier and by the third round Clancy had landed all the telling punches up to that point, his left hand going in straight and hard to Brown’s head and body. Although Brown came back well towards the end of the fifth after he was put down by a right to the ribs he never really recovered, being sent down twice from similar blows in the seventh. Five more times Brown went to the floor from swinging right hands to the head or body, three times in the eighth and twice in the ninth, before gamely making it to the final bell.
