1904-05-07 (158lbs) Jack Palmer w pts 20 Jack Lalor, Wanderers’ Hall, Johannesburg, South Africa. Referee: D. C. Maturin. Contesting South Africa’s version of the international 158lbs title against England’s Palmer, the South African-based Lalor (150) was knocked down in the opening round by a right to the jaw, going down on four more occasions before the final bell came to his rescue. Palmer (156) was always hitting too hard for Lalor, who complained of being constantly struck in the region of the kidneys. Regardless of that, with his two-fisted attacks and height-and-reach advantages Palmer was always going too well for his game rival, who produced his best work towards the end when the Englishman began to tire.

Palmer fights in the heavyweight division from there on in.
