1904-05-14 (144lbs) Jack Clancy w pts 20 Bobby Dobbs, Ginnett's Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: Billy Bell. In a match made at 144lbs and billed for the world title, Clancy (146), announced as the champion, wasted little time as he rushed Dobbs (140), scoring well with jabs and body blows to take the lead during the opening eight rounds. Although Dobbs scored with smashing right-hand punches on occasion he was unable to sustain any momentum and according to the Sporting Life Clancy held a decided advantage in 15 of the 20 rounds contested. Regardless of that statement, Dobbs claimed the title by forfeit due to Clancy failing to make the requisite weight.
