In a match made at 144lbs, and billed for the world title, Clancy (146), announced as the champion, wasted little time as he rushed Dobbs (140), scoring well with jabs and body blows to take the lead during the opening eight rounds. Although Dobbs scored with smashing right-hand punches, on occasion he was unable to sustain any momentum. Regardless of that statement, Dobbs claimed the title by forfeit due to Clancy failing to make the requisite weight.
