1904-06-13 (128lbs) Aurelio Herrera w co 8 (20) Benny Yanger, The Arena, Butte, Montana, USA. Referee: Dunc MacDonald. Contested at 128lbs, by the end of the seventh most of the money was on Yanger, who had controlled the fight up until then against the shell-like Herrera. However, in the eighth everything changed. A right to the jaw shook Yanger up and following a whole range of blows to head and and body he slumped to the floor. Somehow up at ‘nine’, Yanger was a sitting duck for Herrera and a well directed right to the jaw smashed him down for the full count. Herrera took over Yanger’s claim at the weight on the result before moving up to the lightweight limit and taking on Battling Nelson at 130lbs on 5 September. In England on 15 December, Alf Reed, who had recently won an English 128lbs championship belt, challenged all England at the weight.
