11 July (108lbs) Digger Stanley w co 6 (15) Harry McDermott, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: Billy Bell. Billed for both the world and English 108lb titles, the light-punching Stanley (108), having been put down five times in the fifth, came back kayo McDermott (107½) with a right to the jaw in the very next round. Despite being regarded with some suspicion in the light of the latter’s past record with regard to ‘throwing’ fights, the pair were quickly rematched.
