16 September (106lbs) Frank Morcombe w pts 15 Ernie Godwin, Cosmopolitan Club, Marylebone, London, England. Referee: Bert Dorman. Both were safely inside the 106lbs limit at the 2pm weigh-in and while there was no English title billing given, later gossip showed it to have involved the championship at the weight. There was never much between them with neither man taking a chance and up to the tenth Godwin, who had the best of the short-arm exchanges, was possibly in front. However, from the 11th Morcombe changed tactics, taking the fight to Godwin with far more success, and despite it being close he received the nod.
