1904-11-09 (140lbs) Harry Mansfield w co 15 (15) Jim Courtney, Welsh NSC, Cardiff, Wales. Referee: Mr Cleveland. Billed for the English 140lbs title with two-minute rounds in play, following a fair amount of wrangling over bandages the fight eventually commenced. After a fairly quiet opener it was Mansfield who forced the pace with splendid jabs before Courtney had levelled matters by the seventh after having the better of the fourth, fifth and sixth when scoring with solid body punches. That was before Mansfield sent Courtney crashing with a right to the jaw in the seventh session. Getting up quickly, Courtney came right back with telling blows of his own to be on level terms at the start of the 15th, prior to being counted out following a terrific right the jaw with only moments to go. Regardless of the status of the contest, Mansfield claimed the title on his victory.
