1904-11-29 (130lbs) Battling Nelson w rtd 10 (20) Young Corbett, Woodward’s Pavilion, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Billy Roche. Billed for the world 130lbs title, it didn’t take long for both men to go to close quarters and they were soon throwing terrific punches from either hand. From round six onwards it was noticeable that Nelson’s punches were having more effect and by the end of the seventh Corbett almost tottered back to his corner. By now Nelson was well on top, handing out terrible punishment from both hands, and in the tenth Corbett, still standing, was rescued by his corner who threw up the sponge and rushed into the ring to tend to their stricken fighter.
