1904-12-24 (126lbs) Spike Robson w co 5 (15) Fred Delaney, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: Billy Bell. Billed for the English 126lbs title, while Robson (124) and Delaney (126) could have passed for twins in looks that was where the similarity ended. A disappointing contest saw little happening in the opening few rounds, Delaney appearing to be utterly puzzled by Robson’s style, but in the fifth the Londoner opened up with a series of uppercuts to the jaw which seemed to stagger the latter. Although he had taken his rival’s best punches without being floored, it was still a surprise when Robson sent in a swinging left to the jaw as a response and Delaney crashed down to be counted out.
