1905-01-16 (106lbs) Young Bill Smith drew 12 Smokey Bishop, High Street Lecture Hall, Deptford, London, England. Referee: J. T. Hulls. Billed for the English 106lbs title, there was much dispute as to the validity of the billing with many feeling that the championship of Kent and south London might have been more apt. Both went at it hammer and tongs, with the action being more hectic than skilful, and in the sixth round Bishop (104) had Smith (105½) over with more of a push than a punch. With Smith eventually bucking his ideas up there was little between them at the final bell, a draw being recognised as a reasonable decision.
