1905-02-03 (122lbs) Abe Attell w pts 15 Tommy Feltz, Germania Maennerchor Hall, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Referee: Fred Sweigert. Billed for the world 122lbs title, with both men inside the weight, this was Attell’s debut in Baltimore and by the final bell he had proved to the locals that his title claim at the weight was not an empty one. Having felt that he could tire his rival out by making him work hard early on, Feltz went after Attell in aggressive fashion, only to find that the latter was just as fresh as when he started. With Attell as agile as a cat, the Baltimore Sun stated that most of the blows that Feltz started had lost much of their power by the time they landed as the champion’s footwork had virtually taken him out of range on impact. The nearest Feltz came to knocking Attell over came in the 12th round when an unintentional low blow caused the man from California a certain amount of consternation. That apart, Attell’s advantage in height and reach enabled him to score more points than Feltz, who still proved a worthy opponent.
On 22 February, at the Douglas AC, Chelsea, Massachusetts, Attell drew over 15 rounds against Kid Goodman. Reported to have involved the 122lbs title, it should not be seen as such as both men had agreed to a drawn verdict prior to the start of a match that had been made at 126lbs.
