1905-03-06 (128lbs) Young Joseph w pts 10 Dick Lee, Wonderland, Mile End, London, England. Referee: Victor Mansell. The final of an English 128lbs championship competition which was contested over three-minute rounds, the men set off at a fair pace, Lee showing up well with the left jab and Joseph looking to get inside. At the end of the second round both went down together. Although Lee was on the floor in the third and fifth, with neither being real knockdowns he was quickly back on his feet. Then, in the seventh, Joseph dropped Lee on his knees, and although the latter came back well in the eighth it was the extra strength of the Aldgate lad that saw him pick up the remaining points. Joseph had eliminated the favourite, Seaman Hayes, in an earlier round.

Despite the result, Lee continued to challenge the world at the weight. On 31 January 1906, it was reported that Hayes was also claiming the English title as he believed Joseph could no longer make 128lbs.
