1905-05-05 (133lbs) Jimmy Britt w rsc 20 (20) Jabez White, Woodward’s Pavilion, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Ed Smith. Billed for the world 133lbs championship that Britt was claiming, the fight was even for a while with both men showing great skill, but Britt began to move into the lead from the two-third stage as his extra power began to tell. By the 18th round it was clear that the only chance that White had of winning was if he found a knockout punch, but all the Englishman could do at that stage was to block Britt’s best blows. In the final session Britt’s pressure paid off as he put White down with a body punch, followed by a left-right to the jaw, and when the latter got up to be sent reeling across the ring the police jumped to stop what had become an uneven contest with just 20 seconds remaining.
