1905-07-19 (145lbs) Buddy Ryan w rtd 20 (25) George Peterson, Mission Street Arena, Colma, San Francisco, California, USA. Billed for the world title at 145lbs on account of Peterson’s win over Jack Clancy, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that both men were down to weight. The paper, which also went on to describe Ryan as the holder of a much-neglected title, stated that Peterson was knocked down five times in the 19th round and again in the 20th before his seconds threw the towel in. While Peterson responded gamely throughout he was no match for Ryan.

A short time afterwards, Peterson’s career was halted due to him being stabbed by his manager and losing an eye.
