1905-09-25 (108lbs) Harry Slough w co 3 (20) Harry McDermott, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: J. R. Smoult. Billed for the English and world 108lbs titles, Slough (107¼) began the fight with both hands pumping out while showing surprising pace and skill to put McDermott (107) on the back foot. The second round again saw Slough monopolising the points, outfighting and outboxing his opponent before sending him crashing with a right to the jaw that landed with terrific force. Only the bell saved McDermott, and in the third despite looking to have recovered he was put down and out by a similar blow.
It was later announced that Slough, who’d had great difficulty making the weight, was relinquishing the title after giving his greatest display.
