1906-01-08 (136lbs) Jabez White w pts 15 Bob Russell, Hill Street Horse Repository, Birmingham, England. Referee: J. H. Douglas. Billed for the English 136lbs title, the fight went ahead despite White being five ounces over the weight and having to pay forfeit. The contest got underway with White doing the forcing, making the ribs his target, and although Russell was up against it he was always looking to land blows of his own as well as showing a smart defence. By the sixth White was ahead and in the seventh he twice ‘darbied’ Russell, who took his punishment unflinchingly. The final third saw Russell tiring and although he occasionally jolted White with warm left-handers the latter was well in control, pushing on to win a popular decision.
White now claimed the English title at the weight and at the same time relinquished his claim to the 134lbs championship.
