1906-05-21 (146lbs) Charlie Knock w rtd 17 (20) Curley Watson, Wonderland, Mile End, London, England. Referee: J. T. Hulls. Billed for the English 146lbs title following the retirement of Tom Woodley, despite being contested over two-minute rounds Knock claimed to be the English champion at the weight on winning. Controversy was never far away where the promoter, Harry Jacobs, was concerned and after the referee awarded the fight to Knock following smelling salts being spilt into Watson’s eyes by his second at the end of the 17th, there were cries of ‘fix’. Prior to the eighth round it had been Knock who landed the better shots, but from thereon Watson came more into it, with scoring punches of his own, and at the time of the finish he was probably ahead.
