1906-06-25 (158lbs) [[Hugo Kelly]] w co 3 (10) [[Young Mahoney]], Tomlinson Hall, Indianapolis, Indiana, USA. In a successful defence of his 158lbs title claim, Kelly eliminated Mahoney from the championship running after knocking him out towards the end of the third round. Previously the men had fought three draws. The first session saw Mahoney forcing the fight, but in the second round Kelly came right back into it when deciding to counter rather than swing and immediately had his rival down for ‘eight’ from a right to the jaw. Following up with a body shot, Mahoney was dropped again and in the third he was floored twice, the second time seeing him counted out after falling back down.
