1906-09-11 (158lbs) Hugo Kelly w rsc 5 (15) Sailor Burke, Lincoln AC, Boston, Massachusetts, USA. Referee: Maffit Flaherty. The Boston Post confirmed that with Kelly’s 158lbs title claim being on the line he had all the best of what was a slugging match before knocking Burke down in the fifth with a heavy blow to the head. At that stage the referee stopped the bout and awarded the decision to Kelly, explaining that his action was based on the fact that Burke had gone to his knees three times earlier without being hit.
