1906-10-01 (126lbs) Johnny Summers w pts 20 Boss Edwards, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: J. H. Douglas. Billed for the English 126lbs championship the opening three sessions saw the men beginning to settle before Summers (122½) momentarily dropped Edwards (126) in the fourth and was chasing his rival round the ring at the bell. Dropped again in the fifth, Edwards recovered well and was fighting on even terms until being smashed down again in the ninth by a right to the jaw. Although Summers remained one step ahead of Edwards the second half of the contest produced no more knockdowns, and while the Marylebone man occasionally did well when going to the body his work lacked the variety required to take the title.
Following the contest, Summers stated that he would defend his title against anyone for £200-a-side and best purse.
