1906-10-02 Tommy Burns w co 15 (20) Fireman Jim Flynn, Naud Junction Pavilion, Los Angeles, California, USA. Referee: Eddie Robinson. Defending his title claim, having felt the weight of Flynn’s punches early on Burns decided that the best way of winning was to fight at close quarters where he could nullify the challenger’s best efforts. Showing himself to be a master of the craft Burns gradually slowed Flynn down, and in the 15th set about him with a vengeance. Dropped for two counts of ‘nine’, Flynn finally took the full count after being battered with thudding lefts and rights to the body that were followed by a terrific uppercut to the jaw.
