1906-11-29 (142lbs) Honey Mellody w rsc 12 (15) Joe Walcott, Lincoln AC, Chelsea, Massachusetts, USA. Referee: Jack Sheehan. In a return match, this time made at 142lbs, both men came out fast and it soon became a slugging match, with Mellody’s footwork and blocking making things difficult for Walcott, who was unable to land a telling blow until the fifth round. Coming back strongly in the sixth, Mellody dropped Walcott momentarily, but had to wait until the 11th before really getting on top and punching away at will. In the 12th it was clear to see that Walcott was a spent force and after turning away and walking to his corner the fight was stopped in favour of Mellody. Walcott later said that he had disabled his left arm in the ninth and that it had become impossible for him to carry on.
