1907-01-14 (134lbs) Joe Fletcher w rsc 13 (15) Jack Turner, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: J. H. Douglas. Billed for the English 134lbs title, Fletcher (132½) looked as though he would bring the contest to an early conclusion such was his attacking play, but Turner (131) put up very game resistance and by the halfway stage honours were about even. It was not until the 12th that Fletcher really got on top, having been staggered by a right to the head in the tenth, and in the 13th the referee rescued Turner, who had been hanging on for dear life. After the fight, Fletcher challenged Battling Nelson, who was on holiday in England at the time, but was declined as the latter wouldn’t fight for anything less than £1,500.
