1907-03-14 (98/100lbs) Tom Sayers w co 7 (15) Bill Shaw, Tower’s School of Physical Culture, Upton Park, London, England. Referee: Mr Gordon. Billed for the English 98lbs title, with a silver championship belt at stake, after both men started brightly there was much excitement before Shaw slowed appreciably in the fifth. By the sixth Sayers was scoring at will, and in the seventh the contest was ended by a right-hand drive to the point that sent Shaw crashing down to be counted out.

After no more was heard from Sayers at the weight, by May Joe Percival was claiming to be both the English 98 and 100lbs champion.
