1907-03-25 (128lbs) Tommy Burns w pts 15 Seaman Hayes, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: J. H. Douglas. Made at 128lbs, despite a lack of billing Burns could consider himself to have a claim to the English title at that weight following his victory, but there is no record of him following it up. Whilst there were no knockdowns during the contest it was an absorbing affair between two men whose game plans revolved around handing out heavy punishment, especially to the body. It was always close, with both fighters taking turns to lead, and by the tenth it was a difficult one to call. According to several newspaper reports, Burns scored the faster from there on in and just about deserved the win.
With Burns taking time out and having trouble making the weight, Hayes reclaimed the English 128lbs title.
