1907-06-06 (116lbs) Al Delmont w disq 17 (20) Digger Stanley, Gymnastic Club, Liverpool, England. Referee: Edward Humphreys. Billed for the world 116lbs title, Delmont (116) always seemed to be in control as he used his longer reach and heavier punching effectively to put the fight out of Stanley’s reach. Although Stanley (114) boxed cleverly at times he was unable to keep Delmont at bay, especially in the seventh when he was badly hurt, and after the 12th round the latter was in total command. Having gone low on several occasions, it came as no surprise that Stanley was disqualified in the 17th when a blow to the groin had Delmont in some distress.

Delmont took his claim back to New England, only to find little support in that region due to Jimmy Walsh being seen as the main man.
