3 July (105lbs) Kid Murphy drew 15 Young Britt, Belair AC, Monumental Theatre, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Referee: Edward Hurdle. Billed for the world 105lbs title, for six rounds both men went through the motions before Murphy came alive in the seventh round. At last Murphy took the fight to Britt, and while his punches hardly seemed hurtful the latter dropped to the floor on at least 19 occasions in the last eight sessions, staying down for counts between ‘four’ and ‘eight’. The Baltimore Sun reporting on the decision stated that had the contest been decided on merit Murphy would have won by a big margin. This implied that a draw had been agreed prior to the contest if both men were still standing at the final bell.
