1907-07-25 (124lbs) Owen Moran w co 2 (20) Chris Clarke, Christian Street Gymnastic Club, Liverpool, England. Referee: J. T. Hulls. Although there was no title billing, Moran strengthened his claim to the English 124lbs title on the result. From the opening bell it was clear that Moran’s mode of attack would be concentrated on the body, with Clarke, the taller man, trying to keep the contest at distance. Having taken a good lead, Moran came into the second round with the look of a man who knew exactly what he was doing. Coming out of a clinch with both hands free, Moran feinted a right before sending in a terrific left hook to the jaw that dropped Clarke heavily and led to him being counted out. Prior to turning professional, Clarke had been a two-time ABA featherweight champion in 1901 and 1902. On 20 September, George Moore claimed the 124lbs title but appears to have made no progress.
