1907-08-08 (145lbs) Joe White w pts 15 Andrew Jeptha, Welsh National AC, Merthyr Tydfil, Wales. Referee: Harry Wheeler. Billed for the English 144lbs title, it had no right to be with White (despite living in Cardiff) having been born in Canada and Jeptha being a South African, and the contest being made up of two-minute rounds. However, it would certainly have had an Imperial British Empire claim of sorts. While there was generally too much holding the contest was an interesting one, White scoring well, especially with left leads to the head, while Jeptha gamely stuck to the task. It was noted by the Mirror of Life reporter that Jeptha had an excellent reach if he cared to use it to advantage, but throughout the 15 rounds he was unable to get to White in a heavy manner and was always running second best.
