1907-09-09 (133lbs) Joe Gans w rtd 5 (20) Jimmy Britt, Recreation Baseball Park, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Jack Welch. Billed for the 133lbs world title, Britt (132) was retired before the start of the sixth round when his corner claimed that he had broken his left arm in the fourth when it had come into contact with Gans’ elbow. Regardless of that, according to the referee Britt was thoroughly whipped by Gans (132) and would not have been able to continue for much longer, having shipped countless cutting jabs to head and body without many returns.
