1907-12-05 (130lbs) Jim Lloyd w pts 20 Tommy Burns, Christian Street Gymnastic Club, Liverpool, England. Referee: J. T. Hulls. Although not a billed title bout both Burns (127½) and Lloyd (129½) were treating it as such and the contest started at a brisk pace with both having fair successes. After slipping down during the fifth round, following the tenth Burns had fallen behind and was looking the worst for wear as Lloyd rattled him with lefts and rights to the jaw. Throughout the remaining sessions Burns never shirked his work, but by then Lloyd was on top, having husbanded his energy, and was a worthy winner.
After what was a handsome victory, Lloyd was claiming the English 130lbs championship, a claim that was disputed by Boss Edwards who, on 5 January, 1908 in the Sporting Life, was calling himself the champion.
