1907-12-12 (155lbs) Stanley Ketchel w pts 20 Joe Thomas, Recreation Baseball Park, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Sam Berger. In a match made at 155lbs, Ketchel started fast and was always looking for the body while Thomas boxed coolly, keeping his defences in place and sending in short arm rights and left jabs. At times it seemed as though Thomas had too much skill for Ketchel, but the latter was always dangerous and at the halfway stage he was coming on. In the 15th round Thomas, although tiring, caught Ketchel with a terrific right hook to the jaw and only the fact that they had locked arms saved the Michigan man from a knockdown. Thereafter, however, it was all Ketchel, a barrage of blows to head and body flooring Thomas in the 16th, and only the latter’s superb conditioning allowed him to make it through to the final bell.
