1907-12-12 (155lbs) Stanley Ketchel w pts 20 Joe Thomas, Recreation Baseball Park, San Francisco, California, USA. Referee: Sam Berger. In a match made at 155lbs, Ketchel started fast, looking for the body, while Thomas boxed coolly, keeping his defences in place and sending in short-arm rights and left jabs. At times it seemed as though Thomas had too much skill for Ketchel, but with the latter always dangerous at the halfway stage he was coming on. In the 15th round, Thomas, although tiring, caught Ketchel with a terrific right hook to the jaw, it only being the locking of arms that saved the Michigan man from a knockdown. Thereafter, however, it was all Ketchel. When a barrage of blows to head and body floored Thomas in the 16th it was only his superb conditioning that allowed him to make it through to the final bell.
