1907-12-30 (158lbs) Hugo Kelly drew 10 Billy Papke, Schlitz Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. Referee: Malachy Hogan. Made at 158lbs, with both men inside, Kelly just about held on to his title claim at the weight, having been groggy and saved by the bell on several occasions in a very fast-paced contest. Despite a lack of knockdowns there was no let up as the men looked for a winning punch and both were bleeding heavily at the final bell. The general consensus was that Papke’s vicious attacks warranted more than a draw.

Earlier, the Chicago Tribune stated that the winner would have a realistic claim to the championship.
