1908-01-13 (134lbs) Jack Ward w co 2 (10) Alf Reed, NSC, Covent Garden, London, England. Referee: R. Hair. Although not a billed title bout and not contested over the championship distance, the Gloucester Citizen reported that Ward won the English 134lbs title in this fight. It was Ward who made the brightest start and he soon had Reed looking to use every inch of the ring in order to keep away from trouble. However much he tried Reed just could not keep Ward at bay and after being dropped twice in the opener he was counted out in the second round following a right to the jaw.

Three days later, Ward challenged Joe Fletcher to a bout for the English title.
