17 February (104lbs) Charlie Dew w pts 15 Joe Percival, Ginnett’s Circus, Newcastle, England. Referee: Tom Murphy. Billed for the English 104lbs title, the opening four rounds saw Dew (104) scoring repeatedly with the left, and while Percival (102) concentrated on the inside he was unable to bring the Londoner down. In the seventh it was Percival who was putting his punches together better, but regardless of his efforts he was always one step behind Dew and the latter’s win was fully merited. Having had trouble in making the weight, Dew would never make 104lbs again and by May he was featured in the Mirror of Life as being the 106lbs English champion, a title he appears not to have defended.
