Line 1: Line 1:
1908-03-26 (145/147lbs) Harry Lewis w pts 15 Terry Martin, Eureka AC, Baltimore, Maryland, USA. Referee: Jack McGuigan. According to The Ring Record Book this was a billed championship bout, while the Philadelphia Item merely stated that it assumed the character of a title fight. With no weights reported one should remain sceptical, but my guess would be that the fight was made at either 145 or 147lbs. The aggressor throughout, Lewis was too clever and hit too hard for Martin, who was dropped in the first and eighth rounds from heavy right-hand swings to the jaw. As game as they come, Martin was thought to have won five rounds, especially when both men were tiring, and was always trying.
